utility. This is what I would like to get working.

The docs directory files indicate that WINS must be enabled, and I
don't currently have it enabled. Is this really true? If so, how are
the two Windows machines able to browse for each other, but the Linux
utilities not able?

If WINS is not required, then maybe you can help me determine why it
isn't working. Following are some traces that might help. I
intentionally don't have an smb.conf file; I want to be able to use
the utilities with no prior knowledge of the surrounding network, and
so I specifically don't want to configure anything ahead of time.

In the following traces, MERLIN is the Win2000 machine; WIN95 is the
(duh!) Win95 machine.
