win2k / samba net use parity

On Win2K I can do the following:
net use z: \\server\share\dir1

and get the Z drive mapped to a subdirectory of a share.
Will this be supported in samba 3?
I'm particularly interested to know if
'mount -t (smbfs | cifs)' will support this.
