ldap_nua requires guest exist and have rid 501?

Is that statement true?

if so why?

I've just tried an upgrade to 3.0a20
and domain logons stopped working for me.
a downgrade restores functionality

im using 

        passdb backend = ldapsam_nua:ldap://.../


and i have this line in my smbusers file
nobody = guest pcguest smbguest

does this have something to do with this?
 - Always make guest rid 501 (abartlet)
