'getent group' only returns a few groups - Solaris 8

I've got a moderately sized Solaris site running the Samba 2.2 code
in user mode security (PDC for NT  & 9x).  I've not heard of any 
complaints from them.  All UNIX user accounts are maintained in 
NIS with local smbpasswd files.

What problem did you see?
