The only thing that I would do differently would be to not use the
version number 2.2.4 until 2.2.4 is really released.
For now I would use the version number 2.2.3.99 with a release tag that
corresponds to the time that you did the checkout. Be sure that the
time format that you use is always increasing. For example, I would
likely choose a release tag of "gerdts.200203181405" to correspond to my
checkout at 2:05 PM on March 18, 2002. The end result would be that I
would get an RPM that looked like
samba-2.2.3.99-gerdts.200203181405-i686.rpm.
