Low end 2.2.X i386 compiling

Hi list,

I'm using an clarkconnect(www.clarckconnect.net) 
distribution for an finshied "firewall in a box" solution.

They included an Samba 2.0.7 distribution.

Do 2.2.X need a lot's of libs and stuff ?
The box is lowend (33mips, 48MB ram)

Will it run ?

Will an custom compiled 2.0.9 give improved
security as well as "preformance gain" ?
