Generating lmPassword and ntPassword values with openssl?

Generating a standard UNIX password hash with openssl is straightforward:

openssl passwd -crypt <plaintext_password>

Is there a way to do the same thing to generate the lmPassword and
ntPassword values to store in an LDAP server, so that Samba can
authenticate off of it?
