Samba 2.2.5 on AIX in a W2K environment

are you using security=server ?
If yes, you should consider moving to security=domain.

If you can't join the domain with your Samba server, I have a patch for 2.2.5
and security=server which should improve things. You can also try
Samba 3.0 alpha.
