I have seen this crash here with 2.2.4, too. We have a samba machine,
which is reexporting our NFS-Homes to some 300 Windows2000 Clients. The
Samba server authenticates users against two Win2k domain controllers
via the method security=domain.

Well, if the first of the two offered password servers gets offline, I
see this crash in the logfiles for some active clients. The parent smbd
process keeps running. No client can authenticate itself, because the
fallback to the next DC obviously cannot work when the smbd processes
die. Even if the first DC gets available again, no authentication is
possible. I have to kill ALL smbd processes and launch samba again.

I discovered that when the network reports "No route to host" (tested
with "route add DC_IP reject") everything works fine. But when I get the
error "Operation already in progress" (tested with "route add DC_IP lo")
smbd crashes.

bye
  Martin
