I looked at the trace.  I'm going to bump the limit to 64
as I counted ~45 spoolss pipe opens.  I wonder if this is
a bug in NT 4.0?  Can you reproduce this behavior on a 
Win2k client?  

Also, how many printer connections are there on the client?
I count only two printers being referenced in the tcpdump
