win9X logon problem with samba 2.2.3a

smbd compiled from samba 2.2.3a worked well with Win XP, Win2K
(both domain logons) and Win3.11(workgroup logon)
but logon via Win98SE (workgroup logon) failed with the banner "not
a valid parameter" [OK] on the Windows client station.
I took smbd from samba 2.2.2 same smb.conf and that went fine.
What do you need of logging info to give more details for this problem?
Or is this problem cured already in 2.2.3?
