configure problem in latest cvs ?

Do you have readlien installed on the machine?  Is it perhaps
/usr/include/readline.h rather than /usr/include/readline/readline.h?
(I think this was true for older versions.)

If you have autoconf installed please try running it again:

  $ autoconf
  $ ./configure

Try 

  $ rm config.cache
  $ ./configure
