Confirmed.  File read from a share with the default write cache size,
written with Word 97 on Win2k to a share with the write cache size
suggested below.

   od -c orig.doc > /tmp/od
   od -c copy.doc > /tmp/odbug

(gnu)diff -y od odbug

At offset (octal) 010000 I get null blocks until offset (octal) 051000.

After offset 052000 things may match up OK again.  Closer checking is
required to verify this.
