nmbd on point-to-point interface

Is there any way to make nmbd run on a point-to-point connection? The
problem is, on the mainframes under VM, the Linux guest is often not
running directly to the NIC, and he's given a virtual device. Those
virtual devices are often point-to-point connections (CTC - virtual
channel-to-channel or IUCV - inter-user communications vehicle).
Ultimately, the IP address does work from the outside and goes to the Linux
guest . But nmbd just sees that it is a non-broadcast interface and won't
add it. Trouble is, how does it then get seen on the browse lists, and
when running winbind, how does it find the password server?
