2.2.0 -> 2.2.1a -- removal of old tdb files necessary?

Hi,

do I have to remove the old tdb files when updating from 2.2.0 to
2.2.1a.
If yes, is it possible to do this when clients are connected to the
server (shutadown old smb , make install, remove tdb-files, start new
smb)
