Why aren't environment variables used for this stuff? You get what you
can out of smb.conf and then

NAMESERVER=192.168...
WORKGROUP=hr-dept
DOMAIN=login-u
export NAMESERVER WORKGROUP DOMAINDOMAIN

overrides.
