Hi Klaus,
this error message typically means that you are using the BUNDLED
c compiler that is shipped with HP-UX, which is NOT ansi c compliant,
so many of the tests that configure generates on the fly fail to
compile, and you get errors indicating that the test failed, when actually
the test never compiled properly in the first place. You need to either
purchase and install the ansi c compiler from HP, or you can go onto the
internet and pull the latest version of gcc from the gnu.org website and
use that to compile samba.
Hope this helps,
Don

Subject: samba-2.2.2 hpux No locking available
Configure for samba-2.2.2 on hpux-10.20 stops with ..
checking configure summary
ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe
configure: error: summary failure. Aborting config
This seems to be an old problem.
I downloaded the whole samba-technical-archive and found
several complains about but no hint what to do.
For example, in a posting from Fri, 12 Feb 1999 Alexandre Oliva wrote
"AFAIK, this problem is supposed to be fixed in Samba 2.0.2."
At least for me, it seems it is now back again.
So please, can one of the gurus explain where that problem
comes from and how it can be fixed?
(I know hpux-10.20 is an ancient system. But some nostalgic
thinking people like me continue to use it up to the day the
hardware crashes.)
