samba help for ADS support

when I run "net ads join", i keep getting "Unknown
authentication method".  as described in
ADS-HOWTO.txt,
this could be caused by "the cyrus-sasl-gssapi package
is not installed."

i tried downloading "cyrus-sasl-1.5.27.tar.gz" and
/usr/local/lib seems to have the gssapiv2 library but
samba still give me "Unknown authentication method".

does anyone know how to fix this?
