lanman vs nt hash

I'm sending logfiles and smb.confs according to what I
described. I've just reproduced this situation.

The files are:
enc_pwd_default.conf
  smb.conf(5) with "encrypted passwords" left default
enc_pwd_set.conf
  smb.conf(5) with "encrypted passwords" set explicitly
  (to default value, although)

enc_pwd_default-smbclient.log
  logfile of smbclient connecting to samba (on the same
  host) controlled by enc_pwd_default conf file

enc_pwd_default-ntsp3.log
  logfile of WinNT SP3 machine connecting to samba (over
  network) controlled by enc_pwd_default conf file

enc_pwd_set-smbclient.log
  logfile of smbclient connecting to samba
  (on the same host) controlled by enc_pwd_set conf file

enc_pwd_set-ntsp3.log
  logfile of WinNT SP3 machine connecting to samba (over
  network) controlled by enc_pwd_set conf file

Logfiles were generated with log level = 10. Login attempts
were performed with the same username.


please give me a hint what might cause it
