Patrick, This problem has been fixed in the next major release (2.2) of
samba that will be available soon (famous last word :-) ). 

If you want to give it a try, you can get it from the cvs server.

If using a beta version is not an option for your LPRng user, contact me
privately, I have a patch to samba 2.0.7 to restore the previous
behaviour.
