Start-Stop Samba

I'm running a new install of Samba 2.0.6 on IRIX 6.5, but I am not able to
start and stop using the following commands!

Things I've tried:
/etc/init.d/samba stop
/etc/init.d/samba start
SWAT / Status: Stop smbd
SWAT / Status: Restart smbd

When executing the above commands the Shares / Printers on the PC are never
interrupted.
