I wasn't aware that the Alpha was bi-endian:  I'd never heard anything to the
effect that it worked in anything *other* than intel order.  (It's definitely
big-endian under Linux and NT, and OpenVMS as well.)

MIPS, OTOH, tends to be rather unpredictable.
