tng and shared libs

Just for the public:

This time it looks like it wasn't libtool.
It looks like an old version of bash (1.14) did have some
problems with those shell-scripts, upgrading bash seemed to
have helped.

And we found (and hopefully fixed) some prob in
static-linking... I still have to check HP-UX...
