Password Encryption

I have been able to set up the encryption in the SMB.CONF file and connect from
the NT workstation.

I don't understand the nature the password syncronization, is the intent that
users on the Samba server will no longer use
the standard Unix operating system Password Change program,  but use the Samba
SMPASSWD program which will then synchronize both passwords?

Also when trying to run the SAMBA process SMPASSWORD as anything other than
ROOT, I get the message
 machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the tconX on the IPC$ share. Error was : code 0.
 Failed to change password for mauer

Setting PASSWD CHAT DEBUG does not add any tracing in the log files as the
documentation indicates.
