Adding a Samba 2.0.7 Server to a Win2000 Domain

I attempted this by using the same steps for joining an NT 4.0 domain (as
described on page 171 of the O'Reilly book), but the "smbpasswd -j domain -r
domain_controller" fails.  Is this user error on my part, or currently
unsupported?  Can anyone point me toward 
some docs/FAQ/instructions.  This is probably answered in the Samba
Archives, but until it is up and running again, I feel like I'm "flying
blind".
