I did not imply anywhere in my post that drive letters should not be mapped.
And I do not see the others that posted about using UNC convention imply
that it is the only method to be used.

I just wrote that they were not needed in all cases.

They are a limited commodity to be used with care.

IMHO: Detailed discussions of the whys and wheres should probably be on a
DOS/Windows mailing list, not samba-technical.
