Samba ./configure error on install

  Hello, 

  I'm new to this list so my question may have been 
  asked already, or maybe this is not the correct list.

   I' m running a Cobalt Cube2 with a Quantum MIPS CPU.

   In an effort to install the latest Samba version using  
   the "./configure " command i always get a "permission
   denied" error. I'm defintively loged in as root. On
   intel based machines with SUSE 6.4 not a problem at all.

   Is this a cube thing or is it up to me ?
