TNG: making %U work again for logon path et. al.

I tried that first, but it didn't seem to work.  I guess I should go
back and figure out why.  I was mostly just trying to get this working
here, since I am thinking of deploying TNG this week...

Question: Does the Samba domain controller need to be the local master
browser and/or the domain master browser and/or the WINS server?  I am
considering using TNG for authentication and netlogon only, keeping
all the other services on 2.0.x machines.
