Yes - just specify a different transport endpoint.

I meant UNIX apps. Anything that uses MS-RPC uses DCE under
the covers.

Yes - at that point (when there are two major projects
depending on it) it would make a lot of sense to do the
work to split out the functionality.

But we're not there yet, and to quote Blofeld in "Diamonds
are Forever", "Mr. Bond, it's late, I'm tired and there's
so much left to do....".
