i am sorry to hear that you think so, and i probably am being [childish],
but the number of past experiences in which i have coded things up for
demonstration purposes, only to have the conclusions ignored, does leave
me with an extremely cynical attitude towards pursuing any further
developments.

if you read my message carefully, it is guarded in such a way that it
implies "experience from problems with..." [that covered a number of days
to identify and find quick-fix for] and "preliminary analysis" that took
me fifteen minutes, earlier this afternoon.

if i implied that these are the only possible ones, take my word for it, i
apologise: i was, i _hope_, inviting other people to take a look and
perhaps confirm what i had cursorily observed and perhaps come up with a
more thorough and complete answer.

these kinds of invitations are what i have been doing on the samba mailing
lists for the last two to three years, andrew, and sometimes people even
take me up on them.
