WINS support

Ick.  DNS and NetBIOS names really, really are different things.  It is
convenient if the two match, but it's like using a phone book to look up a
web site. 

If anyone is interested, there is a Java-based NBNS server that could 
probably be tuned to do what you want.  jcifs.samba.org
