*SMBSERVER NetBIOS name

Hi,

I said:

>does Windows NT understand the *SMBSERVER netbios name in the Called Name

A little checking has revealed that Windows NT 4.0 does accept a called
name of *SMBSERVER and that smbclient tries that name if the server name
supplied by the user is rejected in the NetBIOS Session Request.
