Hi:
Brief overview of my situation
------------------------------------------
I work on a PC running Windows NT 4.0. I run a telnet session to a LINUX
machine running RedHat 5.1. I would like to access my PC's local CDROM
drive from the LINUX box. For this, I run smbmount from my telnet
session to mount the CDROM drive using a command like:
smbmount //linuxbox/cdrom /mnt/samba -C -U mylinuxid -c
linuxhostname -D domainname -d 555 -f 555
The problem
------------------
The mount works fine. But, all the files and directories under
/mnt/samba have no permissions whatsoever.
d--------- 1 root root 512 Dec 31 1969 /mnt/samba
And, this is how a listing of /mnt/samba looks:
total 17
---------- 1 root root 698 Sep 11 1998 00_TRANS.TBL
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 BIN
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 DBS
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 LIB
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 NETWORK
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 NLSRTL
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 OCOMMON
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 ORACORE
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 ORAINST
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 OTRACE
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 PLSQL
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 PRECOMP
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 RDBMS
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 SLAX
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 SQLPLUS
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 SVRMGR
d--------- 1 root root 512 Sep 11 1998 UNIXDOC
On the NT4.0 side, I have"shared" my CDROM drive with "Full Control"
permissions to "Everyone". I
cannot do a 'chmod 555 /mnt/samba'. I am logged on to LINUX as 'root'.
Does that matter?
In summary, can any of you Samba gurus out there help me access my PC's
CDROM drive from a LINUX box?
It would help a lot if you would please cc: your responses to me at
