it appears that (on x86) there is some stack corruption in
local_password_change().  i haven't fixed this: i just made new_pw16 and
new_nt_pw16 static.

does anyone with experience at finding stack corruption (gdb or other
debug tool) want to look
at this?

p.s Benjamin, this would explain your MYSQL-password-change-crashing
problem, too.
