This is similar to test results I got in my limited testing of Samba off
real world work.

Using the same hardware we compiled, using several different compilers,
our software on a Microsoft NT server in 25 min and on a RedHat 5.2 +
Samba 2.0.3 in 47 min. This is mostly C++ compilers for Dos, Windows 9x,
NT, Novell OS targets and more than 150,000 lines of code distributed over
approx. 1,300 c++ files.

For porting reasons we are staying with Samba... The fact that it is also
more stable helps a bit :-)

But if anybody is going to work on improving these benchmarks I would like
to help if help is needed.
