need 600-800k per simultaneous smb process.  if you don't do this, you'll
end up spending time swapping.

if you have a brain-dead or mis-configured OS, you will end up with poor
performance.

suggest that the smb.conf file is made available to this list, plus more
configuration details (os, box etc).  suggest also requesting assistance
for these kinds of tests, on the samba lists.  publication of test results
can therefore provide optimal configuration details, which makes
publication of the tests far more useful.  providing just the numbers,
with no config info, is a really bad idea, as it misleads people.
