NT password change affecting logins

We are running Samba 1.9.18p10 on a Solaris 2.5.1 box with UNIX
password authentication. When users update their UNIX and NT
passwords and have some Samba shares set to automatically mount
when they log in, the new password is never accepted. The only
solution we have found is to disconnect from all Samba shares and
then reconnect. Why is this?  How can this be fixed.
