i'm specifically not going to get involved with this.

microsoft released cifs1.0 v1 spec just after nt 5.0 beta 1 came out.  
absolutely no consultation with anyone.  when we told them that they had
made several quite bad mistakes, they responded "sorry, it's too late:
we've a code freeze in 8 weeks, can't do anything about it".  that was
approx a year ago now.  having run into difficulties already, they've
hoisted themselves by their own petard, i don't want to get involved until
they get their act together and sort out the problems as outlined in
detail on the cifs digest.

ms have a bad attitude: unless microsoft themselves run into a problem,
they couldn't care less about anyone else.  no-one else could _possibly_
have a better idea than microsoft.

no point until ms releases full details on "security blobs" as outlined in
cifs1.0 v1 spec.
