It appears in the REACNET workgroup in NN (there is only one workgroup, REACNET),
and it auths machines and users fine for the REACNET domain.

It's not machine related:

>From a different machine:
saturn:~$ smbclient -N -L jupiter -I 192.168.1.6 -U% -d2
Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.0.4b]

>From the machine itself:
jupiter:~$ smbclient -N -L jupiter -I 192.168.1.6 -U% -d2
Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.0.4b]

jupiter:~$ testparm -s | grep workgroup
        workgroup = REACNET
