authentication failing

I've been seeing similiar behavior but have been unable to track it
down. It seems worse on our print server (Sun Ultra 1, Solaris 2.6) and
ClearCase VOB server (Sun 1000, Solaris 2.6) I haven't seen this happen
at all in conjunction with our Linux box (2.0.35), but that may just be
a difference in usage patterns.

It would help if this were more consistent. I've only had one report of
this behavior in the last 2-3 weeks.
