How to get lots of compile toime checks now?

Hi,

with the latest changes to Samba 2.0.0, I no longer seem able to pass
things like -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes etc to the compiles by editing the
Makefile that is generated by configure.

How do I accomplish this?
