	Ok, back to the initial question:

	With the Sun 4.2 compilers, on 2.6 and 2.7, the
	initial form (-D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64)
	is correct, and changing to -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE is
	mildly undesirable.
	
	eischen at vigrid.com found the change necessary with gcc.
	
	I don't use gcc on Slolaris, and so can't test 2.7
