Thank you everybody who responded to my posts with your helpful advice.

The problem is no longer occurring on my machine; but unfortunately I
don't know what the original cause was. I just removed all the CVS
builds of Samba, Samba-TNG, Head, etc; and reinstalled 2.2.2 release.
The first time I tried joining the domain; it was successful.
