failure == succes in log?

I'm trying to figure out why I'm unable to write back my profiles on logout,
and I came across the following in the log.smbd (I'm using 2.2 from CVS,
checked out today):

chmod of mac/ntuser.dat.LOG failed (Success)

Is this natural?  Seems wrong...
