Windows-style name resolution on Solaris

Is there any way, perhaps with winbind, to have a Solaris 2.6 server do
netbios name resolution?  I'm trying to reverse-lookup a number of internet
hosts, which have no DNS.  From my laptop I can use "ping -a" which queries
the remote machine name, but Solaris won't do this "out of the box"
obviously.  Is there a way to use Samba (or anything) to add this
functionality?
