That's part of the problem - SAMBA isn't the PDC, NT is.
SAMBA can't even be BDC

This file exists already on the NT server, and should be loaded and run 
when I log in - does when I connect directly

Yes, that part I have, but it's of no direct use since the info is on the 
NT server, not the SAMBA server.
