i dunno if this helps or not, but under nt4server i had to add an entry in
the /etc/passwd file with the username as the machinename & a $ sign, for
example

www$

then run smbpasswd for that user,  then the machine acct is created...when
the machine logs in for the first time (remember you set a blank passwd) it
will change the password.  if you ever remove it from the domain i think you
need to repeat the steps.  does this help?
