smbwrapper vs smbmount

I seem to recall reading a post saying that GNU libc 2.1 has changes
made that meant that smbwrapper was no longer able to override the
filesystem calls necessary to provide transparent access to smb
shares.  I don't believe that this problem would be specific to Red
Hat.
