well, i'd be even happier with vmware if i could run it without X.  darryl
told me that if i run /usr/bin/X11/xinit /usr/bin/vmware -q -X it does
pretty much the same job, so that';s what i am doing, now, as an emergency
measure.

and other than vmware 2.0 you can install samba which of course you would
have to disable to run any other version of samba, no there are no issues,
there cant be.
