Login trouble

I have a client with an installation of Samba which is acting as their only
login server.  Occasionally they are restarting it because a single user
cannot login.  Well, whenever they do this they kill everyone's ability to
reboot.

Aside from not doing that anymore, is their a cache they can clear or a file
to delete or anything that can help in this?
